I’ll have to pick up a copy of that translation, as I am one of those people who fell in love with OE during a general English lit class and went on to take several more classes focusing on the language and translation. My husband is reading Heaney now, but I have been urging him to read the OE alongside so that he can get a feel for the beauty of the original work. Perhaps the Sullivan and Murphy translation will satisfy us both.

I just started reading the Heaney translation this morning, and it seems like he stretches out the lines to make it read more modern, while Sullivan and Murphy are faithful to the original structure (which does appeal to me). I’ll hunt down the Sullivan/Murphy to compare and contrast.
